Retail giant, Target, has made the decision to shut down nine locations across four states in the United States, specifically in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and New York City. This decision comes after Walmart shut down stores in the Chicago area just a few months ago. Retailers across the nation, both large and small are plagued by an increase in shoplifting and criminal activities.

The origins of this crisis can be traced back to the turbulent summer months of 2020, triggered by the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. During this period, widespread lawlessness gripped the nation as riots erupted in major American cities. Businesses were besieged by looters who not only ransacked stores but also set many ablaze, leaving mass destruction in their wake.

Fast forward to the present, and we find ourselves in a world where many prominent Democratic Party politicians and activists have vocally supported the idea of defunding police departments and their budgets, being slashed significantly nationwide. The consequences of these actions are now becoming evident. The surge in retail theft and related crimes can be directly linked to the calls for police reform and defunding, particularly in states like California, which are grappling with numerous challenges and have placed retail theft enforcement at a lower priority due to laws benefiting the criminal over the victim and Soros funded district attorneys not enforcing laws.

Over the coming months and years, it will be no surprise to see many retailers following  in Targets footsteps. Employee and customer safety alike is the first priority. Many of these stores are located in free for all looting hot zones. Nothing will change until the states get their acts together and enforce the laws that they have set forth.
